24 Hours of Rocky Hill

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Race

A 24 hour mountain bike relay race on approximately 10-mile course. Teams try to log as many laps as possible, with only 1 member riding at a time. The team with the most laps in the 24 hour time period wins.

 

Course Description

Short Description: A 10-mile (approx) loop, 80% single track and 20% jeep road with several creek crossings. The single track winds through oak and pine groves combining quick down hills and technical sections. The course is marked with arrows for day riding, reflective tape for night riding. Long Description: RHR provides you with steep climbs, tight, fast single-track and fast downhills. From the start, RHR will let you know just how good of a climber you are (or aren’t) thanks to the multiple steep climbs of ‘Fat Chuck’s Demise’. If you don’t make it, don’t feel bad – just lay down next to Chuck’s headstone and admit defeat. Next comes a fast winding trail called ‘Karaway’ that leads to ‘Off the Lip’, a parade of whoop-dee-doo’s that wind in and out of a dry creek bed. 'Off the Lip’ will put a huge smile on your face. After the ‘Lip’, you hit the service road for a very short stretch until you reach Water Station 2 and on to ‘Longhorn Loop’. ‘Then it is on to some nice stretches of single-track, 'Miracle Mile', and towards the end is ‘Black Trac’, described as the grand finale of RHR, and rightfully so. Imagine the best of RHR all at once. Right before you think it’s all over you come to ‘The Wall’ – think whoop-dee-doo on crack.

 

 

Prizes and Awards:

Fastest Lap Awards: $50.00 Fastest Lap Award to the male & female that turn the Fastest Lap during the 24 Hours of Rocky Hill. There is also an award to the fastest Le Mans runner (male & female) at the start of the race. In addition, $50 will be awarded to the fastest solo open lap (of the top 3 solo open finishers) and $50 to the fastest solo female lap (of the top 3 solo female finishers). Solo single speeds are eligible for this prize if they place in the top 3 of the geared bikes.

Solo Open Male (Cat 1) & Solo Female will receive 50% cash payback. In addition, all other 'open' categories will receive a cash payback, based on field depth. 1st-5th in all other categories (that fill 10 deep) will receive prizes and/or plaques. We will have some giveaways in a racer raffle after the race! If categories do not fill, we will go at least one deep, or more, depending on the field depth.

Categories:

GRANDE: Teams may have any number of riders up to a maximum of 8. A maximum of 2 (two) Cat 1 or Pro riders per team. (In addition to the team entry fee, All Grande Teams must provide 1 volunteer race timer for a minimum of 2-hours during the race.  We would gladly take more volunteers ~ this is just a minimum.)

3-4 PERSON OPEN : No age, category or gender requirements.

3-4 PERSON COED : No age or category requirements. Gender requirements: must have at least one member of the opposite sex on each team.

3-4 PERSON SPORT: (Combined age must average less than 35 years of age per rider...example 4 riders <140 years of age). Riders must be Cat 2 or 3. Riders can be of any gender.

3-4 PERSON VET SPORT: (Combined age must average 35 years of age or higher per rider...example 4 riders = 140 years of age or more). Riders must be Cat 2 or 3.

3-4 PERSON FEMALE: No category requirements.

2 PERSON OPEN: No age, category or gender requirements.

SOLO SPORT MALE: Riders must be Cat 2 or 3.

SOLO OPEN MALE: (50% Cash Payback) No age, category or gender requirements.

SOLO FEMALE: (50% Cash Payback) No category requirements.

Solo Open & Solo Female 50% Cash Payback: For example if there are 30 solo opens with an entry fee of $150 each. 50% of the total entry fee (30 x $150 / 2 = $2250.00) will be paid back in prize money.

Single Speed bikes will compete in the above solo categories against geared bikes, but will also be scored separately to determine overall solo single speed placement. At a minimum, we award plaques to the single speeds 1st - 3rd in Solo Open & 1st in Solo Female.

ENTRY FEES:

Teams - Early Entry $125 per person thru Oct 5, 2013, (*Register by this date to guarantee tech shirt)  $130 per person Oct 6th thru race date (cotton shirt)

Solo - Early Entry $150 per person thru Oct 5, 2013, (*Register by this date to guarantee tech shirt) $160 per person Oct 6th thru race date

 

 Lights:

NiteRider will be at the event and plans to bring a full inventory of lights "for sale" or rental.  They will also have their rapid charging station available. There will be a neutral charging outlet. Please label you lights with your name.

Race check in & starting time

Checkin: Teams can check in at Rocky Hill Ranch on Friday October 18, 2013 between 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
Teams can also check in at Rocky Hill Ranch on Saturday October 19, 2013 between 9:00am – 10:30am.

Pre-race meeting: Saturday, 10/19/13, 10:30am

Start Time: The 24 Hours of Rocky Hill starts at 12:00 NOON!

Gate Fee:

Gate Fee: $10 per person, per day.  This will be collected at the gate by the landowner and applies to all racers, support crews, spectators and vendors.

 

Refund Policy

No refunds under any circumstances.  Wait!  Well maybe.  We at Terra Firma understand that things change, sometimes out of your control and we never want to rip anyone off.  But please understand that we make a considerable investment in shirts, awards, dumpsters, porta potties, land use fees and a host of other expenses to put a race on.  We know your one fee doesn’t effect this number, but if we don’t have a policy and stick to it, where do we ever draw the line?

We think we’ve come up with a pretty liberal policy and hope you agree:

1. Cancellations greater than 21 days prior to the event will receive a 90% refund or 100% credit to another race within a year.
2. Cancellations within 15-21 days prior to the event will receive a 50% refund or 100% credit to another race within a year.
3. Cancellations within 8-14 days prior to the event will not receive a refund but may receive a 50% credit
   towards another race in the same year.
4. Cancellations within the last 7 days prior to the event are not eligible for any refund or credit because we’ve already spent your money.
5. Alterations to the course, start time, disciplines and venue (to within a reasonable distance) are not
   grounds for a refund/credit, nor is plain ol’ bad weather.
